Interview: Rosetta on Getting Pregnant after a Testicular Cancer Diagnosis
Rosetta is 40 years old, lives in Queens, NY with her husband and daughter and works as a Licensing Coordinator. Her life sounds pretty normal until her husband’s frightening diagnosis. Read her story here…
My fertility story...We were married 10 months when we received the frightening news that my husband has testicular cancer (which is curable). Our initial thought was “will we ever have kids”. With surgery and chemo a week away. My obgyn recommended we see a reproductive Dr. She advised to freeze sperm and to see her once my husband was well and in remission. My main thought at that time was to be my husbands rock and beat this cancer. Which he did! One year later we started IVF.
How long were you trying?
We wanted kids right away and started on our honeymoon.
What was your fertility process?
I was so nervous as I did not know what to expect. The dr and nurses were so nice and helpful through it all. The injections and blood tests were mentally and physically draining, but I did not give up faith and hope. We ended up having 2 fertilized embryos. Due to my age (35 at at the time) my dr didn’t feel more than 1 be implanted. We were desperate to become parents and begged her to pls transfer both. She was like I cannot, you have a AA embryo – which is the best grade. I had faith & left it all in gods hands. The 2 week wait was horrible. We received the phone call and we were pregnant. It was the best feeling!!
What advice do you have for other women going through something similar?
Don’t give up – it may feel like your life is being taken from you but there is light at the end of the tunnel.. Have Faith!!
